Children's Services Division
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent offers a variety of licensed childcare programs to meet the needs of parents, caregivers and their families. In Chatham-Kent, the Municipal Children’s Services Division is responsible for managing the child care system which consists of 13 Purchase of Service Operator head sites, 45 childcare satellite locations totaling approximately 2,000 childcare spaces for Infant, Toddler, Preschool (ELP), JK/SK and School Age children. Fee subsidies which assist with the cost of childcare is available for eligible families. Parents who are deemed eligible through an income test can have their children attend childcare at an affordable rate while they work, attend school, or address special circumstances in their lives.
Chatham-Kent's Municipal Children's Services Division also provides funding to Best Start Partner Agencies to support the integration of children with extra needs into the childcare system with the assistance of (Developmental) Personal Support Workers and Special Needs (Child and Family) Consultants.
The Municipality also oversees enhancement of all services effecting children in the Chatham-Kent Community under the vision of Best Start. These services are many but to name a few; Public Health, Children’s Treatment Centre, Chatham-Kent Children’s Services, Childcare and others. These services performing under the Best Start vision are demonstrating how strengthening awareness, coordination and collaboration amongst organizations pay off. The Municipality strongly supports childcare development through wage subsidy programs to enhance childcare staff wages and quality programs which enhances healthy, prosperous communities.
